The work is a direct response to the gesture of Yasser Arafat who after the attack on WTO had been photographed donating blood to the victims. Arafat was primarily trying to improve the public opinion of the global audience after the international media brought images of celebrating Palestinians. Róza El-Hassan, herself of half-Syrian origin, repeats the gesture, originally motivated by a political strategy, with a re-newed sense of intimacy and personal compassion.
