In this video we see the symbol of Arab Army being mechanically embroidered onto the uniforms of the army of Jordan. On one hand it simply refers to the Jordanian Armed Forces while simultaneously evoking Pan-Arab aspirations of the independence movement under the Ottoman rule in the beginning of 20th century. The great Arab revolution led by Sherif Hussein bin Ali ended with the British Mandate and the division of the land into Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. Today it is the stateless Palestinians who, in one way or the other, could somehow revive the ideas of Pan-Arabism. However, with the rise of Pan-Islamism the ideal of an Arab Nation seems to be obliterated and the notion of Arab Army might stand for wishful thinking.
